Dr. Stefan Mattmann studied at the University of Fribourg from 1979 to 1983. He was admitted to the bar of the Canton of Lucerne in 1985. In 1988, he received the Professor Walther Hug Award for his dissertation at the University of Fribourg on the subject of "Responsibility in the case of deprivation of liberty (Art. 429a ZGB)". From 1985 to 1987, he worked as an employee in a lawyer's and notary's office in Lucerne and then as a court clerk at the Cantonal Court of Obwalden until 1988. In 1989, he obtained his notary's license in the Canton of Lucerne. He has been an independent lawyer and notary in Lucerne since 1989. He completed his mediation training at Eidos Projekt Mediation in Munich in 2002. Dr. Stefan Mattmann was a substitute member of the Cantonal Court of Lucerne from 2005 to 2017 and a member of the Bar Examination Commission of the Canton of Lucerne from 2000 to 2024.
